My User Management
This plugin allows Jira administrators to securely delegate group membership management to regular users or teams without granting them full admin rights. This helps reduce the administrator's workload, optimizes access management, and empowers team leaders with tailored permissions.
Key Features 🚀
Flexible Delegation: Assign individual users or entire groups to be responsible for managing the membership of other groups.
Simple User Interface: Provide delegated users with a dedicated page to easily add and remove members from the groups entrusted to them.
Full Audit Trail: Track all group membership changes in the Jira audit log to ensure security and transparency.
1. Configuration for Jira Administrators
As a Jira administrator, you can configure delegation rules to define who can manage which groups.
How to configure delegation:
Navigate to Jira Administration (⚙️) > User management.
In the left-hand menu, select Delegate Groups.
Click the + Create Delegated Groups button to create a new rule.
On the configuration screen, you will see a list of existing rules and can create new ones by specifying:
Delegated Groups: The group whose membership will be managed (e.g.,
jira-servicedesk-users).Managed by Users: Specific users who will get permission to manage this group (e.g.,
Linda Abrams).Managed by Groups: A group whose members will all receive management permissions (e.g.,
jira-software-users).
You can specify either individual users or an entire group as managers for a single rule.
2. Group Management for Delegated Users
Users who have been granted delegated permissions get access to a simple interface for managing their groups.
How to manage group membership:
Click on your profile avatar in the top-right corner of Jira.
In the dropdown menu, select My Delegated Groups.
On this page, the user will see a list of all groups they have been entrusted to manage. Here, they can easily add new members to the group or remove existing ones without needing to contact a Jira administrator.
3. Auditing and Tracking Changes 🛡️
All actions performed through the delegate plugin are recorded in Jira's standard audit log, ensuring full control and security.
How to view changes:
Navigate to Jira Administration (⚙️) > System.
Under the TROUBLESHOOTING AND SUPPORT section, select Audit log.
In the log, you can track all changes to group memberships:
Author: Who made the change (e.g.,
linda).Category: The event category (
group management).Summary: A brief description of the action (
User added to group,User removed from group).Date: The exact time the change was made.
You can use the filters for date, author, or project to quickly find the events you are looking for.
